Inpatient Coding Specialist II – Relief, Non-Benefitted

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Examine medical record documentation and accurately assign ICD-10-CM/PCS diagnosis and procedure codes.

• Allocate MS-DRG/APR-DRG, POA indicators, discharge disposition, and sources of admission.

• Abstract necessary data in accordance with facility specifications.

• Oversee Discharged Not Billed accounts to ensure prompt and compliant processing of inpatient accounts.

• Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Specialists and medical personnel to clarify and finalize documentation.

• Uphold established quality and productivity standards.

• Utilize 3M Encoder, 3M Audit Expert, 3M CDIS, Epic, MS Office, and abstracting systems.

• Remain informed about CMS requirements, CCI edits, HACs, PSIs, NCDs, LCDs, and modifiers.

• Participate in mandatory meetings and educational sessions, and complete annual learning programs.

• Adhere to Stanford Health Care policies, procedures, AHIMA ethical standards, AHA Coding Clinic guidance, and federal/state regulations.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

• A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible and relevant work experience.

• Successful completion of the Coder Proficiency Exam (prior to hiring).

• Capability to comply with the American Health Information Management Association’s Code of Ethics and Standards and apply Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set (UHDDS) standards.

• Proficiency in using ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 coding conventions to code medical record entries.

• Familiarity with diagnosis/procedure DRG grouping systems such as MS-DRGs and APR-DRGs.

• Understanding of health information systems, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and various diseases.

• Knowledge of CCI and CMS compliance issues.

• Possession of RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification.

• Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently, meet deadlines, solve problems, and adapt to shifting priorities.
