InDesign Automation Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Develop and sustain InDesign automation using ExtendScript and/or UXP (.idjs) to create print-ready layouts from organized content.

• Identify and resolve issues in production scripts, including diagnosing intermittent text-sizing and layout discrepancies.

• Utilize InDesign Server and manage headless rendering at a production level.

• Work collaboratively with design and engineering teams to minimize manual layout tasks and dependence on external scripting providers.

• Assist with backend tickets in conjunction with the engineering team to enhance backend development skills.

• Maintain clear and proactive communication within a fully remote, US-based team environment.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive, hands-on experience with Adobe InDesign scripting using ExtendScript and/or UXP (.idjs).

• A genuine aptitude for coding and a desire to advance into backend development.

• Familiarity with Ruby, Python, Java, or another comparable backend programming language.

• Proficiency in Git and experience with PR-based code reviews.

• Proven ability to debug and troubleshoot automation created by others.

• Capability to work independently with unfamiliar proprietary APIs/DOMs and limited documentation.

• Advanced to fluent English proficiency (C1–C2), both written and spoken.

• Availability to overlap with Central Time zone.

• Preferred: Experience with InDesign Server/headless production, including SOAP job queues and automated rendering pipelines.

• Preferred: Experience in production-scale automation involving IDML generation or data merge.

• Preferred: Knowledge of print production concepts such as CMYK, bleed, PDF/X, and preflight procedures.

• Preferred: Familiarity with background job queues like Sidekiq or SOLID Queue.

• Candidates must possess backend coding skills or experience; manual graphic/DTP design alone is not sufficient.
