In-House Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as the in-house legal expert and collaborate with the executive team on product legal strategy and implementation.

• Provide guidance on privacy, data, AI, compliance, commercial contracts, customer security requirements, and scalable legal support.

• Establish practical, repeatable systems for addressing privacy inquiries, particularly those concerning Subscriber Signals.

• Acquire in-depth knowledge of Kit, SparkLoop, Subscriber Signals, and the interconnected creator ecosystem.

• Report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and work alongside product, sales, finance, and people operations leaders.

• Manage core legal responsibilities in-house and identify when specialized external counsel is necessary.

• Review legal contracts, privacy concerns, and customer security requests.

• Evaluate legal risks, opportunities, ambiguities, and repetitive tasks to enhance efficiency.

• Outline active data processing, privacy, AI, and other legal projects.

• Create scalable systems for privacy intake, guidance, and escalation.

• Oversee GDPR and data compliance vetting.

• Develop processes for addressing customer security questionnaires.

• Serve as the primary legal partner for product, engineering, security, and go-to-market teams.

• Develop playbooks, templates, intake processes, and self-service guidance for recurring legal inquiries.

• Collaborate throughout the product lifecycle on initiatives and feature launches.

• Prioritize legal risks, minimize dependence on external counsel, and optimize legal workflows.

• Enhance legal maturity across privacy, compliance, product counsel, commercial contracts, and security support.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive knowledge in data, compliance, and product law.

• Strong capability to navigate U.S. and European data privacy regulations, including GDPR and CCPA.

• Understanding of the distinctions between data controllers and processors.

• Ability to convert privacy and compliance requirements into scalable playbooks, templates, intake processes, and self-service guidance.

• Experience assisting with customer security questionnaires.

• Proven experience collaborating with security, sales, product, and engineering teams.

• Familiarity with SOC 2 Type II and related legal, privacy, and customer obligations.

• Knowledge of intellectual property law concerning brand, content, and software.

• Understanding of commercial contracts.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to act as a trusted advisor.

• Experience as in-house counsel at a technology firm or serving a technology portfolio at a top-tier startup-focused law firm.

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school in the United States.

• Active membership in good standing with a State Bar Association.

• Capability to work from within the United States.

• Legal authorization to work in the country of residence.

• Must not require visa sponsorship at present or in the future.
