Product Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Provide guidance to product, engineering, IT, business development, marketing, and other teams regarding product development and commercialization.

• Offer advice on adherence to privacy, data security, marketing, consumer protection, risk management, and partner-relations laws and regulations.

• Oversee user and service agreements, terms of service, licensing contracts, and commercial agreements.

• Investigate new legal inquiries and summarize findings for internal stakeholders.

• Work collaboratively with in-house and external counsel on intricate legal and regulatory matters.

• Foster relationships with outside counsel, partners, and regulators to support business objectives.

⛳️ Requirements

• J.D. degree.

• Over 6 years of pertinent legal experience at a prestigious law firm, government agency, or in-house legal department, ideally in a rapidly growing startup.

• Must be admitted and in good standing with a state bar or the District of Columbia, preferably Illinois or eligible for in-house counsel registration in Illinois.

• Knowledge of state and federal consumer financial services laws and regulations, including data security and privacy laws.

• Strong enthusiasm for new and emerging technologies, especially blockchain and cryptocurrencies.

• Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

• Capability to collaborate across functions and consult with technology development teams.

• Excellent project management abilities with a keen attention to detail.

• Preferred: Experience in financial services, particularly with money transmitters and cryptocurrency firms.

• Preferred: Background in developing compliance programs and providing associated advice.

• Preferred: Familiarity with data privacy regulations, including GDPR, GLBA, and CPRA.

• Preferred: Experience in arbitration, alternative dispute resolution, and customer complaint resolutions.
