Employment Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Deliver initial legal support on performance management, disciplinary actions, accommodations, policy inquiries, and exits.

• Provide guidance on international employment issues across Coinbase's presence in over 20 countries.

• Collaborate with external local counsel and HR on cross-border inquiries, country expansions, as well as EMEA and APAC employee matters.

• Assist with employment agreement processes, including the review of offer letters, standard separation agreements, transfer letters, and relocation agreements.

• Evaluate AI tool implementations to ensure compliance with Coinbase's AI employment law framework.

• Offer advice on bias audit responsibilities and prepare necessary notices and disclosures.

• Work alongside the People team on EEO-1 reporting, OFCCP requirements, and pay equity compliance.

• Aid in employment litigation and administrative processes, which includes drafting EEOC position statements, coordinating with external counsel, managing litigation holds, and assisting with discovery.

• Monitor developments in employment law and translate them into actionable guidance for HR partners.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) with active membership in a U.S. state bar.

• Over 5 years of experience in employment law, including significant in-house experience advising HR business partners.

• Strong experience in U.S. advice-and-counsel relating to performance management, terminations, accommodations, and leaves.

• Practical experience with employment litigation and administrative charges, involving position statements, discovery, litigation holds, and coordination with outside counsel.

• Familiarity with U.S. HR compliance regulations, such as EEO-1 reporting, OFCCP, and pay equity.

• Proven engagement with the evolving regulatory landscape of AI and employment law.

• Responsible application of generative AI with appropriate human oversight.

• Background in working with hourly or customer experience groups is advantageous.

• Experience in advising on international employment issues is a plus.
