In-Home Hospice & Euthanasia Veterinarian, DVM

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Deliver in-home pet hospice, palliative care, quality-of-life support, pain and symptom management, and compassionate euthanasia services within the designated service area.

• Travel independently to scheduled appointments and operate within a mobile veterinary care setting.

• Conduct physical examinations, clinical assessments, administer medications, provide sedation, perform euthanasia, and execute other veterinary services in accordance with relevant regulations and the role's scope.

• Educate and assist pet families in making informed decisions regarding quality-of-life, end-of-life care options, euthanasia, and aftercare.

• Ensure accurate maintenance of veterinary medical records and clinical documentation.

• Facilitate communication with pet families, the Heartstrings veterinary medical team, scheduling and support teams, and referring veterinary professionals.

• Safely manage, position, and assist with the movement of companion animals.

• Uphold clinical independence, sound medical judgment, reliability, and professionalism while engaging in fieldwork.

• Exhibit Compassion, Dignity, and Respect in interactions with patients, families, colleagues, and veterinary partners.

⛳️ Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), BVMS, or an equivalent veterinary medical degree from an accredited or otherwise qualifying veterinary program.

• Possess, or be eligible to obtain, an active veterinary license in the state(s) where services will be rendered.

• Valid U.S. driver's license required.

• Capability to travel safely between scheduled in-home veterinary appointments.

• Comfort in working independently as a mobile veterinarian.

• Ability to communicate with empathy and professionalism during pet hospice, quality-of-life, and end-of-life discussions.

• Availability to participate in a rotational weekend schedule.

• Capacity to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted and assist with weights up to 100 pounds, with reasonable accommodations where applicable.

• Ability to perform physical and logistical tasks in diverse residential environments.

• Successful completion of relevant background and motor vehicle record checks after hire and before the scheduled start date.
