In-Home Hospice & Euthanasia Veterinarian, DVM

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kentucky, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Deliver in-home pet hospice, palliative care, quality-of-life support, pain and symptom management, and compassionate euthanasia services within the designated service area.

• Travel independently to scheduled appointments and operate within a mobile veterinary care setting.

• Conduct physical examinations, clinical assessments, medication administration, sedation, euthanasia, and other veterinary services as permitted by the position and relevant regulations.

• Educate and support pet families in making quality-of-life decisions, exploring end-of-life care options, understanding euthanasia, and managing aftercare.

• Ensure the maintenance of accurate, timely, and professional veterinary medical records and clinical documentation.

• Engage in communication with pet families, the Heartstrings veterinary medical team, scheduling and support teams, and referring veterinary professionals.

• Safely handle, position, and assist with the movement of companion animals.

• Uphold professionalism, clinical independence, sound medical judgment, and reliability while working autonomously in the field.

• Exhibit compassion, dignity, and respect in all interactions with patients, families, colleagues, and veterinary partners.

⛳️ Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), BVMS, or an equivalent veterinary medical degree from an accredited or otherwise recognized veterinary program.

• Possess, or be eligible to obtain, an active veterinary license in the state(s) where services will be delivered.

• Hold a valid U.S. driver's license.

• Capable of safely traveling between scheduled in-home veterinary appointments.

• Comfortable operating independently as a mobile veterinarian.

• Proficient in communicating with empathy and professionalism during pet hospice, quality-of-life, and end-of-life discussions.

• Available to participate in a rotational weekend schedule.

• Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted and assist with weights up to 100 pounds, with reasonable accommodation when applicable.

• Capable of fulfilling physical and logistical requirements in diverse residential environments.

• Successful completion of necessary background and motor vehicle record checks post-hire and before the scheduled start date.
