Image Quality Specialist – VFX, Film

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Analyze high-resolution still images and video sequences at the pixel level.

• Detect compression artifacts, noise, aliasing, banding, and various visual defects.

• Evaluate grain structure, texture fidelity, edge quality, image consistency, and enhancement quality.

• Assess rendering quality, lighting behavior, textures, materials, compositing details, continuity, and visual consistency.

• Review outputs against industry standards in film, VFX, animation, photography, and production quality.

• Evaluate color consistency, grading quality, tonal relationships, lighting, illumination, contrast, depth, and visual balance.

• Create and refine visual-quality evaluation templates, rating guidelines, and defect categorization standards.

• Develop criteria for consistent reviews across diverse content and address ambiguous quality scenarios.

• Produce visual samples for targeted testing and side-by-side comparisons.

• Evaluate enhanced, restored, generated, or upscaled content against reference materials.

• Convert visual observations into detailed written feedback and structured quality criteria.

• Review AI-generated visual outputs against technical and aesthetic benchmarks.

• Identify recurring artifact patterns and quality issues.

• Collaborate with visual specialists and project leads to ensure evaluation consistency.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience in film, VFX, animation, professional photography, digital imaging, or another high-end visual production field.

• Professional background as a VFX Supervisor, Rendering Supervisor, Lighting Artist or Supervisor, Colorist, Cinematographer, Effects Artist, Surfacing Artist, Photographer, Director, Digital Projectionist, or a similar visual specialist role.

• Outstanding ability to detect pixel-level flaws, artifacts, and visual inconsistencies.

• Strong knowledge of image quality, visual perception, lighting, color, texture, and digital image behavior.

• Experience in assessing high-resolution imagery and production-quality visual outputs.

• Capability to articulate complex visual defects and quality differences clearly in written English.

• Familiarity with AI-assisted visual tools and workflows.

• Proficiency in generating visual samples for testing and comparison purposes.

• Consistent access to a 4K-resolution monitor or display.

• Must reside in the United States.

• Available to work approximately 20 hours per week with overlapping availability during PST through EST working hours.

• Work must be executed without utilizing confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, institution, studio, or third party.
