Hospice Veterinarian

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Deliver in-home pet hospice, palliative care, quality-of-life support, pain management, and compassionate euthanasia services within the designated service area.

• Travel independently to scheduled appointments in a mobile veterinary care setting.

• Conduct physical examinations, clinical assessments, administer medications, provide sedation, perform euthanasia, and execute other veterinary services within the role’s scope and relevant regulations.

• Educate and support pet families in making quality-of-life decisions, exploring end-of-life care options, and understanding euthanasia and aftercare.

• Maintain accurate veterinary medical records and comprehensive clinical documentation.

• Communicate effectively with pet families, the Heartstrings veterinary medical team, scheduling and support staff, as well as referring veterinary professionals.

• Safely handle, position, and assist with the movement of companion animals.

• Uphold clinical independence, sound medical judgment, professionalism, and reliability while working autonomously in the field.

• Exhibit Compassion, Dignity, and Respect in all interactions with patients, families, colleagues, and veterinary partners.

⛳️ Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), BVMS, or a comparable veterinary medical degree from an accredited or recognized veterinary program.

• Must hold or be eligible for an active veterinary license in the state(s) where services will be provided.

• Valid U.S. driver's license required.

• Capability to travel safely between scheduled in-home veterinary appointments.

• Comfortable working independently as a mobile veterinarian.

• Ability to communicate with empathy and professionalism during hospice, quality-of-life, and end-of-life discussions.

• Availability for rotational weekend scheduling.

• Capacity to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted and to assist with weights up to 100 pounds, with reasonable accommodations as needed.

• Ability to fulfill physical and logistical requirements in diverse residential settings.

• Successful completion of applicable background checks and motor vehicle record checks post-hire and prior to the scheduled start date.
