Hospice Veterinarian

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Deliver in-home pet hospice care, palliative support, quality-of-life assistance, pain and symptom management, and compassionate euthanasia services within the designated service area.

• Travel independently to scheduled appointments and operate in a mobile veterinary care setting.

• Conduct physical examinations, clinical evaluations, administer medications, perform sedation, euthanasia, and other veterinary services in accordance with the role and relevant regulations.

• Educate and guide pet families through decisions regarding quality-of-life, end-of-life care options, euthanasia, and aftercare.

• Maintain accurate and timely veterinary medical records and clinical documentation.

• Communicate effectively with pet families, the Heartstrings veterinary medical team, scheduling and support teams, and referring veterinary professionals.

• Safely manage and assist with the positioning and movement of companion animals.

• Uphold professionalism, clinical independence, sound medical judgment, and reliability while working autonomously in the field.

• Exhibit Compassion, Dignity, and Respect in interactions with patients, families, colleagues, and veterinary partners.

⛳️ Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), BVMS, or an equivalent veterinary medical degree from an accredited or otherwise qualifying veterinary program.

• Possess, or be eligible to acquire, an active veterinary license in the state(s) where services will be rendered.

• Hold a valid U.S. driver's license.

• Capable of safely traveling between scheduled in-home veterinary appointments.

• Comfortable working independently as a mobile veterinarian.

• Proficient in communicating with empathy and professionalism during sensitive conversations regarding pet hospice, quality-of-life, and end-of-life matters.

• Availability for rotational weekend scheduling.

• Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unaided and assist with weights up to 100 pounds.

• Capable of fulfilling physical and logistical requirements in various residential settings.

• Successful completion of relevant background and motor vehicle record checks after hiring and before the scheduled start date.
