Hospice Veterinarian

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.

📋 Description

• Deliver in-home pet hospice, palliative care, quality-of-life support, pain and symptom management, and compassionate euthanasia services within the designated service area.

• Travel independently to scheduled appointments and operate in a mobile veterinary care setting.

• Conduct physical examinations, clinical assessments, administer medications, provide sedation, facilitate euthanasia, and perform other veterinary services as per the position's scope and relevant regulations.

• Educate and support pet families in making quality-of-life decisions, exploring end-of-life care options, understanding the euthanasia process, and considering aftercare alternatives.

• Keep accurate, timely, and professional veterinary medical records and clinical documentation.

• Communicate effectively with pet families, the Heartstrings veterinary medical team, scheduling and support teams, along with referring veterinary professionals.

• Safely handle, position, and assist with the movement of companion animals during in-home visits.

• Uphold professionalism, clinical autonomy, sound medical judgment, and dependability while working independently in the field.

• Exhibit Compassion, Dignity, and Respect in interactions with patients, families, colleagues, and veterinary partners.

⛳️ Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), BVMS, or an equivalent veterinary medical degree from an accredited or qualifying veterinary program.

• Must hold or be eligible to acquire an active veterinary license in the state(s) where services will be provided.

• Possess a valid U.S. driver's license and the ability to travel safely between scheduled in-home veterinary appointments.

• Comfortable working independently as a mobile veterinarian.

• Capable of empathetic and professional communication during sensitive pet hospice, quality-of-life, and end-of-life discussions.

• Availability to participate in rotational weekend scheduling.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted and assist with weights up to 100 pounds, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.

• Capacity to perform the physical and logistical requirements of veterinary care in diverse residential environments.

• Successful completion of applicable background and motor vehicle record checks following hire and prior to the employee's scheduled start date.
