Hospice Veterinarian

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Deliver in-home pet hospice, palliative care, quality-of-life support, pain and symptom management, along with compassionate euthanasia services within the designated service area.

• Navigate independently to scheduled appointments and operate within a mobile veterinary care setting.

• Conduct physical examinations, clinical assessments, medication administration, sedation, euthanasia, and other veterinary services in accordance with the scope of the position and relevant regulations.

• Educate and support pet families in making quality-of-life decisions, exploring end-of-life care options, euthanasia, and aftercare processes.

• Ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and professionalism of veterinary medical records and clinical documentation.

• Communicate effectively with pet families, the Heartstrings veterinary medical team, scheduling and support staff, and referring veterinary professionals.

• Safely handle, position, and assist with the movement of companion animals.

• Uphold clinical independence, sound medical judgment, professionalism, and reliability while functioning autonomously in the field.

• Exhibit compassion, dignity, and respect in all interactions with patients, families, colleagues, and veterinary partners.

⛳️ Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), BVMS, or a comparable veterinary medical degree from an accredited or qualifying veterinary program.

• Must possess, or be eligible to obtain, an active veterinary license in the state(s) where services will be rendered.

• Valid U.S. driver's license required.

• Ability to travel safely between scheduled in-home veterinary appointments.

• Comfortable working autonomously as a mobile veterinarian.

• Capable of communicating with empathy and professionalism during sensitive discussions regarding pet hospice, quality-of-life, and end-of-life matters.

• Availability for rotational weekend scheduling.

• Physical capability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted and assist with weights up to 100 pounds, with reasonable accommodations as applicable.

• Ability to perform physical and logistical tasks in diverse residential settings.

• Successful completion of applicable background and motor vehicle record checks after hiring and prior to the scheduled start date.
