Hospice Veterinarian

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.

📋 Description

• Deliver in-home pet hospice, palliative care, quality-of-life support, pain and symptom management, and compassionate euthanasia services in the designated service area.

• Travel independently to scheduled appointments while operating in a mobile veterinary care setting.

• Conduct physical examinations, clinical evaluations, medication administration, sedation, euthanasia, and other veterinary services within the role's scope and relevant regulations.

• Educate and support pet families in making quality-of-life decisions, exploring end-of-life care options, euthanasia, and aftercare.

• Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of veterinary medical records and clinical documentation.

• Communicate effectively with pet families, Heartstrings veterinary medical, scheduling, support teams, and referring veterinary professionals.

• Safely handle, position, and assist in the movement of companion animals.

• Uphold clinical independence, sound medical judgment, professionalism, and reliability while working autonomously in the field.

• Exhibit compassion, dignity, and respect in interactions with patients, families, colleagues, and veterinary partners.

⛳️ Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), BVMS, or a comparable veterinary medical degree from an accredited or qualifying veterinary program.

• Possess, or be eligible to secure, an active veterinary license in the state(s) where services will be offered.

• Hold a valid U.S. driver's license and have the ability to safely travel between scheduled in-home veterinary appointments.

• Be comfortable working autonomously as a mobile veterinarian.

• Communicate with empathy and professionalism during discussions related to pet hospice, quality-of-life, and end-of-life care.

• Availability for rotational weekend scheduling is required.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted and assist with weights up to 100 pounds, with reasonable accommodations when applicable.

• Capable of performing physical and logistical tasks in diverse residential settings.

• Successful completion of necessary background checks and motor vehicle record checks post-hire and prior to the scheduled start date.
