Hospice Veterinarian

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.

📋 Description

• Deliver in-home pet hospice services, palliative care, quality-of-life support, pain management, and compassionate euthanasia within the designated service area.

• Travel independently to scheduled appointments and operate within a mobile veterinary care setting.

• Conduct physical examinations, clinical evaluations, administer medications, perform sedation, euthanasia, and other veterinary services in accordance with the scope of the role and relevant regulations.

• Educate and support pet families in making quality-of-life decisions, exploring end-of-life care options, understanding euthanasia, and managing aftercare.

• Keep accurate, timely, and professional veterinary medical records and clinical documentation.

• Engage in communication with pet families, the Heartstrings veterinary medical team, scheduling and support staff, and referring veterinary professionals.

• Safely manage, position, and assist in the mobility of companion animals.

• Uphold clinical independence, sound medical judgment, professionalism, and reliability while working autonomously in the field.

• Exhibit compassion, dignity, and respect in all interactions with patients, families, colleagues, and veterinary partners.

⛳️ Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), BVMS, or a comparable veterinary medical degree from an accredited or qualifying veterinary program.

• Must hold or be eligible to acquire an active veterinary license in the state(s) where services will be rendered.

• Possession of a valid U.S. driver's license.

• Capability to safely travel between scheduled in-home veterinary appointments.

• Comfort working independently as a mobile veterinarian.

• Proficient in communicating with empathy and professionalism during conversations regarding pet hospice, quality-of-life, and end-of-life matters.

• Availability to take part in rotational weekend scheduling.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unaided and assist with weights up to 100 pounds.

• Capability to fulfill the physical and logistical demands of providing veterinary care in residential settings.

• Successful completion of relevant background and motor vehicle record checks post-hire and prior to the scheduled start date.
