Hospice Veterinarian

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Deliver in-home pet hospice, palliative care, quality-of-life support, pain and symptom management, and compassionate euthanasia services within the designated service area.

• Travel independently to scheduled appointments and operate within a mobile veterinary care setting.

• Conduct physical examinations, clinical assessments, medication administration, sedation, euthanasia, and other veterinary services in accordance with the position's responsibilities and applicable regulations.

• Educate and support pet families through quality-of-life decisions, end-of-life care options, the euthanasia process, and aftercare considerations.

• Keep accurate, timely, and professional veterinary medical records and clinical documentation.

• Communicate effectively with pet families, the Heartstrings veterinary medical team, scheduling and support teams, and referring veterinary professionals.

• Safely handle, position, and assist with the movement of companion animals.

• Exhibit professionalism, clinical independence, sound medical judgment, and reliability while working autonomously in the field.

• Show compassion, dignity, and respect in interactions with patients, families, colleagues, and veterinary partners.

⛳️ Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), BVMS, or an equivalent veterinary medical degree from an accredited or qualifying veterinary program.

• Hold or be eligible to obtain an active veterinary license in the state(s) where services will be provided.

• Possess a valid U.S. driver's license and the capability to travel safely between scheduled in-home veterinary appointments.

• Comfortable working independently as a mobile veterinarian.

• Ability to communicate with empathy and professionalism during sensitive conversations regarding pet hospice, quality-of-life, and end-of-life matters.

• Availability for rotational weekend scheduling.

• Capability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted and assist with weights up to 100 pounds, with reasonable accommodations where applicable.

• Competence to perform physical and logistical tasks in various residential settings.

• Successful completion of applicable background and motor vehicle record checks after hire and before the scheduled start date.
