Hospice Veterinarian

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Deliver in-home pet hospice, palliative care, quality-of-life support, pain and symptom management, and compassionate euthanasia services within the designated service area.

• Travel independently to scheduled appointments while practicing in a mobile veterinary care setting.

• Conduct physical examinations, clinical assessments, medication administration, sedation, euthanasia, and other veterinary services in accordance with the position’s scope and relevant regulations.

• Educate and assist families in navigating quality-of-life decisions, end-of-life care options, euthanasia, and aftercare.

• Keep precise, timely, and professional veterinary medical records and clinical documentation.

• Communicate effectively with pet families, the Heartstrings veterinary medical team, scheduling and support teams, and referring veterinary professionals.

• Safely manage, position, and assist with the movement of companion animals during in-home visits.

• Maintain clinical autonomy, sound medical judgment, professionalism, and reliability while working independently in the field.

• Exhibit compassion, dignity, and respect in all interactions with patients, families, colleagues, and veterinary partners.

⛳️ Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), BVMS, or an equivalent veterinary medical degree from an accredited or otherwise recognized veterinary program.

• Possess, or be eligible to obtain, an active veterinary license in the state(s) where services will be delivered.

• Valid U.S. driver's license.

• Capability to safely travel between scheduled in-home veterinary appointments.

• Comfortable working autonomously as a mobile veterinarian.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to convey empathy and professionalism during pet hospice, quality-of-life, and end-of-life discussions.

• Availability for rotational weekend scheduling.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted and assist with weights up to 100 pounds, with reasonable accommodation as needed.

• Capacity to meet the physical and logistical demands of delivering veterinary care in various residential environments.

• Successful completion of applicable background and motor vehicle record checks post-hire and before the scheduled start date.
