HIM Protected Health Info Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.

📋 Description

• Act as the primary support resource for the Health System, which includes 8 Acute Care Hospitals, all Baptist outpatient services, and all ambulatory surgical centers.

• Address requests from former patients, physicians, hospital personnel, and other stakeholders for health information while ensuring the confidentiality of patients’ protected health information.

• Conduct quality assessment reviews on the release of health information to guarantee proper, complete, and accurate disclosures.

• Verify all necessary components of received requests.

• Handle phone inquiries and provide information in compliance with hospital policies regarding the Disclosure of Medical Record Information, as well as state and federal laws, HIPAA, and Information Blocking regulations.

• Deliver exemplary customer service.

• Collaborate as part of a team to achieve the release of protected health information and departmental objectives.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School diploma, Certification, GED, Training, or Experience.

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in record releases and/or in an acute care environment within a large healthcare organization is required.

• Familiarity with medical terminology, clinical chart formats, and computer skills.

• Capability to work in a highly-focused, customer service-oriented environment with substantial telephone experience.

• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively engage with both internal and external customers.

• Strong computer proficiency, particularly in MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.

• Must be able to perform under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive demeanor and providing exceptional customer service.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently to complete assignments within the guidelines of provided instructions, established routines, and accepted practices.

• Must be detail-oriented and capable of high-volume performance with excellent organizational skills.

• Requires travel to various locations for depositions or court hearings.

• RHIT, RHIA, or Health Services Administration certifications are preferred.

• An Associate’s degree in health information management is preferred.
