HIM Coder II, Certified

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kansas.

📋 Description

• Review records within the electronic medical system and accurately assign and sequence ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes.

• Adhere to the AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding, ICD-10 Official Coding Guidelines, and other regulatory requirements.

• Code inpatient, observation, and surgical cases.

• Implement Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG) methodologies, including present on admission indicators.

• Evaluate medical record documentation for complications and comorbidities.

• Conduct physician queries and provide clarification on documentation.

• Perform charge verification tasks.

• Apply CPT, HCPCS, and modifier codes for outpatient claims.

• Manage edits and denials through claim scrubber queues.

• Collaborate as part of a team and also work independently.

• Follow safe work practices along with Amberwell procedures and policies.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of one year of coding experience in inpatient and surgical settings.

• High school diploma is required.

• Completion of a Medical Coding Program.

• One of the following certifications is mandatory: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC).

• Preferred: two years of progressive coding experience in an inpatient facility.

• Preferred: one year of coding experience in orthopedic surgery.

• Preferred: graduation from a Health Information Technology program.

• Preferred: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification.

• Ability to function effectively as part of a team as well as independently.

• Knowledge of and commitment to safe work practices.

• Capability to adhere to established Amberwell procedures and policies.
