Helpline Staff Attorney

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.

📋 Description

• Offer guidance, brief services, and referrals in a variety of civil law areas.

• Show dedication to understanding and addressing the challenges faced by low-income and vulnerable populations.

• Assess client eligibility for legal services based on firm policies and procedures.

• Empower and provide counsel to pro se litigants navigating civil legal matters.

• Supply local community resources to ensure a comprehensive support approach.

• Conduct initial consultations with clients.

• Identify, evaluate, and analyze civil legal issues.

• Perform legal research as needed.

• Draft pro se pleadings and letters.

• Utilize various computer platforms and technologies for client interactions, case management, and phone systems.

• Participate in meetings and other functions within or outside CLS’s 12-county service area.

• Execute additional duties as assigned to manage workload and cover absences.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must hold a valid admission to practice law in Florida, in good standing.

• Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are preferred.

• No specific prior experience in any particular area of law is required.

• Preferred experience includes civil litigation or working with low-income and/or vulnerable clients and communities on civil legal issues.

• Experience in a fast-paced environment with a strong ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.

• Highly approachable demeanor.

• Strong organizational skills.

• Capability to effectively engage and collaborate with a diverse range of constituents.

• Excellent skills in legal and community partnerships.

• Proficient in computer use, including Microsoft Office 365.

• Possession of a valid Florida automobile license.

• Must use personal automobile.

• Proof of insurance is required.

• Flexibility to work scheduled hours, including some evenings and weekends, based on organizational needs.

• Ability to learn and utilize various computer platforms and technologies for client interactions, case management, and phone systems.
