Health System Analyst – SME

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Deliver senior-level health systems analysis to support the design, implementation, and ongoing improvement of VHA programs.

• Evaluate VHA clinical, administrative, operational, and business processes to pinpoint gaps and areas for enhancement.

• Perform assessments of current and future-state healthcare processes.

• Create and refine business processes, workflows, roles, responsibilities, handoffs, and decision-making points.

• Produce process maps, workflow diagrams, requirements documentation, standard operating procedures, job aids, and resources for implementation.

• Lead sessions for process redesign and confirm proposed processes with clinical and operational stakeholders.

• Assist in the development and execution of the Elevated Risk Care Management operating model.

• Analyze workflows related to suicide prevention, behavioral health, care management, referrals, outreach, follow-up, escalation, and documentation.

• Aid in the implementation and validation of revamped workflows at three VHA pilot locations.

• Coordinate implementation efforts among national program leadership, VISN stakeholders, medical center leadership, and local clinical teams.

• Evaluate operational readiness, implementation challenges, dependencies, risks, and resource needs.

• Facilitate training, site onboarding, workflow validation, monitoring of implementations, stabilization, and adoption of changes.

• Create measures for process effectiveness, dashboards, performance reports, workflow metrics, and monitoring tools.

• Analyze pilot outcomes and suggest corrective actions, refinements, scaling strategies, and sustainability plans.

• Assess the effects of VHA policies, organizational, clinical, and operational changes on existing processes.

• Promote coordination among VHA clinical operations, academic affiliates, and healthcare education partners.

• Compile technical reports, process maps, briefing materials, decision documents, and both executive and operational deliverables.

• Keep records of assessments, designs, process decisions, risks, recommendations, and lessons learned.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Master’s degree from an accredited institution in healthcare administration, health systems management, public health, business administration, health services, organizational management, or a related field.

• At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in health systems analysis, healthcare operations, business process analysis, healthcare transformation, or a similar discipline.

• Extensive familiarity with clinical and business processes within VHA.

• Experience with operations of VHA medical centers.

• Working knowledge of Veterans Integrated Service Networks (VISNs) and their connection to VHA medical center operations.

• Preferred: Significant experience directly assisting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or Veterans Health Administration (VHA).

• Preferred: Experience with key VHA programs, such as Patient Centered Medical Home, Mental Health, Residential Rehabilitation, PTSD, Prosthetics, Telehealth, Women’s Health, Specialty Care, Veterans Homelessness, or Geriatrics and Extended Care.

• Preferred: Experience in supporting suicide prevention, behavioral health, care management, or high-risk Veteran populations.

• Preferred: Knowledge of VA suicide prevention processes, including REACH VET, Risk ID, PDE, SPED, post-event outreach, and requests related to the Veterans Crisis Line.

• Preferred: Experience collaborating with BHIP teams, MHTCs, suicide prevention personnel, or other multidisciplinary VHA clinical teams.
