This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Carolina.

📋 Description

• Encodes medical information into the Prisma billing/abstracting systems following established professional and regulatory coding standards.

• Ensures that the diagnosis present on admission (POA) indicator is accurately assigned, coding for various facilities.

• Utilizes ICD and ICD-PCS codes for inpatient records, including significant traumas and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) records, based on the review of clinical documentation.

• Examines work queues to identify charts requiring coding and prioritizes them according to department-specific protocols.

• Offers professional expertise and collaborates with clinical documentation specialists regarding coding and documentation practices and standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• Education - Completion of a Certification Program, Associate degree, or Coding Certificate from the American Health Information Management (AHIMA) or another approved coding certification program.

• Experience - A minimum of three (3) years of coding experience in an acute care or ambulatory environment, with inpatient coding experience. Familiarity with EPIC health information systems is preferred.

• Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses - Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), or another approved coding credential.

• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Skillful in using official coding manuals, as well as electronic medical records, computer-assisted coding/encoding software, and clinical documentation information systems to aid in coding assignment. Understanding of electronic medical records and the 3M or Encoder System. Familiarity with medical terminology along with basic anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology, with the capability to apply this knowledge in the coding process. Awareness of the MS DRG prospective payment system and severity systems.
