Clinic/Outpatient Coder I

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +15 more states.

📋 Description

• Assign ICD-10-CM and/or CPT codes for outpatient referrals, therapy services, and non-interventional radiology.

• Conduct coding for primary care clinics and/or a single specialty.

• Code procedures and diagnoses in accordance with Official Coding Guidelines, CMS guidelines, and Mosaic compliance standards.

• Engage in workshops, conferences, and in-services for professional growth.

• Communicate with providers to ensure maximum documentation specificity through queries.

• Collaborate with Patient Financial Services to verify and adjust charges and coding for accurate documentation and compliance with payers.

• Address edits to maintain the accuracy of State HIDI data.

• Execute other assigned responsibilities.

• Excellent hand/eye coordination.

• Strong fine motor skills and proficient writing capabilities.

• Detailed understanding of medical terminology, pathophysiology, and coding guidelines.

• Must demonstrate courtesy and professionalism when working with internal and external customers.

• Capability to work amidst interruptions with flexibility in hours and workflow.

• Skill in fostering teamwork and enhancing service quality.

• Ability to interpret data from charts and analyze encoder instructions.

• Capacity to comprehend physician documentation.

• Ability to maintain concentration for extended periods.

• Skill in visualizing and interpreting patient records.

• High school diploma required; Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology education necessary if coding license/certification is not held.

• Coding education is mandatory.

• Preferred: One year of experience in a Health Information Services department involving detailed work with patient medical records.

• Must obtain one of the following coding credentials within 180 days: CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC, CCS-P, COC, or CCA.

• Travel to off-site locations may be necessary.

• Candidates must reside in Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, or Virginia.
