Health Information Coding Supervisor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oklahoma.

📋 Description

• Oversee the daily functions and operations of coding services at Saint Francis Health System.

• Investigate, track, and coordinate the coding and billing requirements.

• Supervise departmental data abstraction and guarantee precise diagnostic and procedural coding from patient records.

• Formulate and execute both short- and long-term strategic planning objectives.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to address payor inquiries and denials.

• Assess the validity of appeals and manage the appeal process for payment.

• Mentor coding personnel and offer ongoing education and training.

• Keep abreast of industry standards and guidelines, updating internal policies to comply with regulatory mandates.

• Inform team members and providers about updated regulations.

• Partner with coding auditors to address focused review needs and variations in coding practices.

• Compile monthly reports on quality, productivity, FTE, and additional management metrics.

• Conduct interviews and hire coding staff.

• Make independent decisions regarding non-routine issues under general supervision.

• Perform performance evaluations.

• Interact with internal and external customers, healthcare professionals, staff, and Director-level personnel.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED is required.

• A Bachelor’s degree in Health Information or a related field is preferred.

• CCS certification from AHIMA or CPC certification from AAPC is required.

• RHIA or RHIT certification is preferred.

• A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required.

• Prior leadership experience is essential.

• Experience in a large acute teaching facility is preferred.

• Familiarity with ICD-10, CPT, and APR/DRG for hospital-focused responsibilities is preferred.

• Strong understanding of relevant coding regulatory requirements.

• Knowledge of public reporting platforms is necessary.

• Understanding of Case Mix Index or Relative Value Unit (RVU) assignment, severity, and mortality ratings is required.

• Proficient in Microsoft 365.

• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

• Capability to efficiently organize and prioritize work tasks.

• Demonstrated ability to train and educate team members on coding policies and guidelines.
