Head of Legal

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Prepare, assess, and negotiate commercial agreements, encompassing partnership arrangements, vendor contracts, SaaS agreements, and licensing contracts.

• Oversee the company's compliance framework pertaining to data privacy, fair housing, consumer protection, and residential rental legislation.

• Track the regulatory environment and provide leadership with advice on new obligations.

• Assist in board meetings by compiling board materials, drafting resolutions, and managing communications with board members.

• Collaborate with Finance and Leadership on corporate structuring, fundraising, and legal matters related to investors.

• Act as the primary legal advisor for Product and Engineering teams.

• Provide counsel on feature development, consumer-oriented policies, intellectual property considerations, and platform risk management.

• Consult on employment issues in collaboration with the People team.

• Oversee and coordinate external legal counsel regarding litigation and disputes.

• Create and sustain legal playbooks, templates, and intake procedures.

• Report directly to the CFO.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.

• Active membership in good standing with at least one state bar.

• 5+ years of legal experience—either in a law firm, in-house, or a combination of both.

• Substantial experience with commercial contracts, including the negotiation of complex agreements.

• Experience in supporting a board of directors—preparing materials, drafting resolutions, and managing board communications.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; capable of simplifying legal complexities into clear guidance for non-lawyers.

• Ability to operate with considerable autonomy in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

• Background in SaaS, real estate, proptech, or two-sided marketplace businesses.

• Knowledge of venture-backed companies, litigation, and M&A processes.
