Head of Infrastructure

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Czechia.

📋 Description

• Design and implement infrastructure for high-load distributed systems, spanning both bare-metal environments and cloud-based Kubernetes.

• Take ownership of platform reliability, performance, resilience, and security.

• Diagnose and resolve bottlenecks and production incidents across networking, Kubernetes, messaging systems, and data infrastructure.

• Develop and execute infrastructure roadmaps that encompass migrations, high availability, monitoring, security, and CI/CD practices.

• Promote the adoption of Kubernetes across all environments, including production settings.

• Establish and maintain operational failover and disaster recovery capabilities.

• Write and review Infrastructure as Code.

• Manage infrastructure priorities, capacity planning, on-call processes, and collaborate with Engineering and Product/Project Management teams.

• Plan and implement infrastructure modifications in collaboration with development teams.

• Oversee infrastructure projects from start to finish, including breaking down initiatives, monitoring progress, and eliminating obstacles.

• Lead technical hiring efforts, encompassing candidate screening, conducting technical interviews, and providing hire/no-hire recommendations.

• Mentor technical leads and encourage independent decision-making.

• Manage infrastructure costs and capacity effectively.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience with high-load systems, including messaging queues, proxies, databases, networking, Kubernetes, CI/CD practices, and Infrastructure as Code.

• Capability to independently troubleshoot and resolve intricate production issues.

• Significant experience with both bare-metal and cloud infrastructure, demonstrating flexibility across technology stacks.

• Proficiency in designing infrastructure for distributed systems and articulating architectural decisions clearly.

• Practical experience in leading and resolving production incidents.

• Strong systems thinking skills: understanding the wider implications of technical choices and simplifying complex systems.

• 5+ years of experience as a Head or Team Lead in a product-focused company.

• Demonstrated ownership of people management, prioritization, hiring, and delivery processes.

• Exceptional hiring abilities, including the identification and attraction of strong engineers and making informed hire/no-hire decisions.

• Proven track record in developing technical leads while maintaining robust technical oversight.

• Strong ownership mindset, concentrating on problem-solving rather than assigning blame.

• Ability to define the vision and strategic direction for the infrastructure domain and drive it forward autonomously.
