Head of Finance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead and expand Astra’s finance operations during a period of rapid growth.

• Take ownership of financial strategy, planning, reporting, and operational excellence.

• Oversee cash flow management, runway, and capital requirements; develop forecasting frameworks.

• Provide guidance to the CEO and leadership team on pricing strategies, resource allocation, and growth initiatives.

• Manage board materials, investor communications, fundraising analyses, executive reporting, data room preparation, and due diligence processes.

• Construct financial models for GMV/TPV, take rates, revenue yields, and unit economics.

• Create reporting systems, dashboards, and KPI frameworks.

• Analyze and project payments revenue, interchange, network fees, processor costs, and revenue-sharing agreements.

• Assess merchant profitability, cohort performance, and partner economics.

• Supervise reconciliation and settlement accounting across ACH, RTP, FedNow, wires, and card networks.

• Manage treasury and liquidity, collaborating with compliance and payments teams on capital requirements and licensing.

• Lead the annual budgeting, long-term planning, and ongoing forecasting cycles.

• Oversee monthly close processes, accounts payable/receivable, treasury, and bookkeeping.

• Coordinate audits and maintain relationships with auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners.

• Establish accounting policies, internal controls, repeatable processes, and scalable reporting frameworks.

• Evaluate business performance and pinpoint opportunities to enhance efficiency, unit economics, and growth.

• Manage and nurture existing finance team members while recruiting additional talent.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in finance, FP&A, investment banking, strategic finance, or related disciplines.

• Familiarity with accounting/controllership fundamentals.

• Experience in an early-stage or venture-backed startup, preferably as a founding or initial finance hire.

• Proven hands-on experience in leading fundraising efforts, including data rooms, due diligence, investor materials, or board presentations.

• Outstanding financial modeling, forecasting, and analytical capabilities.

• Strong grasp of fintech or payments business models and their operational drivers.

• Experience collaborating directly with executive leadership and presenting to boards or investors.

• Demonstrated ability to build scalable financial processes and reporting systems.

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to transform financial insights into actionable business recommendations.

• Comfort in directing tactical tasks through team members.

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related area.

• Experience in payments, fintech, SaaS, or embedded finance sectors.

• Familiarity with interchange, network fees, acquirer/processor pricing, and revenue-sharing models.

• Previous experience in fundraising, investor relations, or corporate development.

• Proven track record of building and managing a finance team from the ground up.

• Exposure to BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker and/or SQL.

• CPA, CFA, or MBA is a plus (preferred).
