This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.
• Take charge of the technical strategy and architecture for the POS Application Platform, serving as the domain CTO for POS device software.
• Develop and oversee developer experience, platform reliability, foundational frameworks, and the adoption of squads throughout the organization.
• Establish and uphold engineering standards across various POS device types and OEM manufacturers.
• Provide functional leadership to POS engineers embedded in Payments, Onboarding, VAS, Savings, and Loans squads.
• Manage POS observability, which includes monitoring, alerting, and incident response frameworks.
• Drive the architecture to support multiple POS device types and determine the onboarding, governance, and integration procedures for these devices.
• Collaborate with OEM partners and the POS hardware team to explore new device types.
• Build and expand the POS platform team through hiring, mentoring, and structuring for international growth.
• Translate platform decisions into business impacts in partnership with Product, Payments, and Business leadership.
• Establish and enhance engineering processes, tooling standards, CI/CD pipelines, and metrics for developer productivity.
• Engage in recruitment, technical, system design, architectural leadership, and CTO interviews as part of the hiring process.
• A minimum of 10 years of hands-on software engineering experience.
• At least 6 years of experience leading engineering teams through significant growth phases.
• Direct, hands-on experience in developing software that operates on Point-of-Sale terminal devices, particularly at the application layer.
• Strong knowledge of EMV standards.
• Familiarity with navigating payment certification processes such as PCI DSS and P2PE.
• Profound expertise in Android engineering using Kotlin and Java.
• Proven experience in constructing internal engineering platforms, shared libraries, developer tooling, or foundational frameworks utilized by other engineering teams.
• Experience in governing or architecting across various POS device types from different hardware manufacturers.
• Background in building or advancing platform engineering functions.
• Demonstrated capability to scale engineering teams effectively.
• Experience in a company that processes high volumes of financial transactions within a regulated environment.
• Prior experience in a fintech setting is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with terminal management systems and device observability tools is a significant advantage.
• Backend engineering experience in Java or Spring Boot is a strong plus.
• Experience collaborating directly with OEM vendors on hardware specifications and integration is an added benefit.
• Exposure to C or C++ is a plus.
• Experience solely at Series A or B stage startups is unlikely to demonstrate the required scale and complexity.
