Head of Engineering, Field Verification

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kenya.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the technical strategy, architecture, and overall roadmap for the Field Verification platform from start to finish.

• Transition the platform from maintenance-focused operation to intentional, prioritized development.

• Lead and expand the current cross-functional team while scaling the organization as the scope grows.

• Develop trip and route optimization, task allocation, and capacity management for field officers.

• Manage APIs, webhooks, and the back office utilized by other business units.

• Provide a native mobile experience for field officers.

• Ensure that verification data is organized, auditable, and meets compliance standards.

• Prepare the platform for expansion into multiple countries.

• Collaborate with Product, onboarding, loans, compliance, and fraud business units.

• Establish architecture standards, engineering processes, and quality metrics.

• Recruit and develop engineers and Engineering Managers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience building products hands-on and progressing into leadership roles from engineering.

• Proficiency in backend, web, and mobile development.

• Skilled in creating platforms that serve multiple distinct user groups and internal business units.

• An adaptable problem solver; experience across various industries is advantageous.

• Over 10 years of overall software engineering experience.

• Significant hands-on production engineering expertise with strong backend capabilities.

• Proficient in Java and Spring Boot.

• At least 5 years of engineering leadership experience, including managing Engineering Managers.

• Capacity to work collaboratively with product and business stakeholders, translating operational needs into engineering solutions.

• Familiarity with location and geospatial data, including map integrations, is a strong asset.

• Experience in route, trip, or delivery optimization is a significant plus.

• Background in compliance-related projects is a considerable advantage.

• Experience with identity, KYC, or verification platforms is beneficial but not mandatory.
