Head of Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Spearhead the gradual modernization of PracticeMatch's legacy ColdFusion and SQL Server platform.

• Establish the target architecture and a phased migration strategy to TypeScript and Python in the cloud.

• Develop test automation, CI/CD, observability, and foundational cloud-platform elements.

• Take ownership of production engineering, lead incident response efforts, and resolve root causes.

• Enhance delivery predictability through small, frequent releases coupled with transparent forecasting.

• Incorporate AI-assisted development into repository contexts, conventions, quality gates, and review methodologies.

• Write substantial production code, engage in architectural tasks, and review the majority of engineering outputs.

• Lead and nurture the PracticeMatch engineering and QA teams.

• Collaborate with the Head of Product, PracticeMatch CEO, M3 USA CTO, as well as sales and marketing teams.

• Recruit, manage, and cultivate engineering talent.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.

• Over 12 years of progressive software engineering experience, with substantial time spent in a hands-on technical capacity.

• At least 5 years of engineering leadership experience, including direct management of engineering teams.

• Proven experience in leading modernization efforts for legacy systems or technology platform migrations.

• Background in a SaaS, data, or platform product environment.

• Expert-level knowledge of web application architecture.

• Strong familiarity with modern web technologies, including React or equivalent front-end frameworks, RESTful APIs, cloud infrastructure, and containerization.

• Experience in designing and managing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and observability systems.

• Practical understanding of application security, data privacy, and compliance requirements for web products.

• Working knowledge of agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or similar, along with reliable production-engineering practices.

• Demonstrated ability to recruit, manage, and develop engineering talent at various levels.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; capable of conveying technical information to executive, business, and engineering audiences.

• Experience in healthcare technology or the physician recruiting industry is a plus.

• Familiarity with the physician recruiting or healthcare data domain is an advantage.
