Manager, Software Development

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Lead and nurture a team of software developers through coaching, one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations, career advancement, and technical mentorship.

• Drive the execution of feature development, enhancements to infrastructure, and management of technical debt.

• Advocate for technical excellence by ensuring high standards in code quality, architecture, testing, security, reliability, and operational stability.

• Collaborate with the Product team to clarify requirements, set priorities, and transform product objectives into feasible technical tasks.

• Promote the integration of AI within development processes, including planning, tools, workflows, operations, and cost management strategies.

• Identify obstacles, facilitate technical decisions, and ensure that engineers are equipped with the necessary context and resources.

• Participate in workforce planning and oversee the recruitment, selection, and onboarding of software engineering personnel.

• Enhance development practices and workflows to boost efficiency, delivery speed, and responsiveness.

• Take ownership of production excellence by maintaining reliable services and learning from operational incidents and challenges.

• Contribute to engineering strategy, emerging technologies, engineering methodologies, and architectural choices for the AI platform.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software development, including at least 2 years in an engineering leadership or management position.

• A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Extensive experience with one or more modern programming languages, such as Python, TypeScript, or Java, in scalable production SaaS environments.

• Practical experience in building and deploying cloud-based services using AWS, GCP, or Azure.

• Strong knowledge of contemporary distributed and microservices architectures.

• Demonstrated ability to lead complex software projects throughout the entire software development lifecycle while managing priorities, dependencies, and risks.

• In-depth understanding of modern software engineering practices, including testing, API and database design, security, and production reliability.

• Experience in coaching and developing software engineers while fostering an environment of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the capability to navigate technical discussions and collaborate effectively across Engineering, Product, and other teams.

• Experience in building and scaling engineering teams in a fast-paced startup or growth-stage technology environment.

• Familiarity with Machine Learning or Data Science teams and AI-driven products is considered a plus.
