Software Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Build and manage high-performing engineering teams.

• Take responsibility for the daily health of engineering teams and support engineers in their growth.

• Assist engineers in developing strong habits, effective communication, and AI-driven engineering skills.

• Collaborate with product and design teams to transform significant customer challenges into functional software through rapid iteration.

• Partner with staff engineers to establish technical direction, code design, and systems thinking.

• Set high standards of excellence and promote AI-tool adoption by leading through example.

• Conduct spikes, prototype new ideas, and explore concepts while steering clear of critical-path tasks.

• Guide engineers on when to trust AI outputs, when to disregard them, and how to uphold code quality.

• Question legacy software development processes and promote quicker pathways to functional software.

• Ensure engineers take into account customer needs, system dynamics, and reliable production operations.

• Report directly to the Director of Engineering.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience managing software engineers on teams that build full-stack web applications.

• Significant, demonstrated use of AI development tools in your work.

• Ability to work remotely from the Eastern, Central, or Mountain time zones.

• Eligible to work in the United States.

• AI power user with discernment and sound judgment.

• A systems thinker.

• Excellent writing skills and the ability to tell compelling stories.

• A humble, always-learning approach to management.

• Sufficiently technical to lead engineers with credibility and provide guidance during code reviews and design discussions.

• Familiarity with building and maintaining HIPAA-compliant software.

• History of leading teams through significant changes in tooling or processes.

• Tangible examples of reshaping team workflows around AI.

• Manual dexterity to use desktop computers and peripherals.

• A brief resume along with a written or video cover letter is required for application.
