Head of Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pakistan.

📋 Description

• Lead the engineering organization at Creative Chaos, guiding technical direction, execution, and expansion.

• Influence engineering practices and architecture in collaboration with leadership, product teams, clients, and other engineers.

• Manage technical recruitment, including screening, performance evaluations, growth opportunities, and termination decisions.

• Set and maintain standards for AI workflows, architecture, code reviews, testing, security, infrastructure, tools, and client experience.

• Mentor and coach engineers to uphold engineering standards across all client projects.

• Oversee staffing allocations for client accounts, ensuring optimal bench utilization.

• Act as the primary technical contact for clients, providing architectural guidance and second opinions.

• Develop the engineering hiring strategy and sourcing plan.

• Articulate architectural challenges to clients, readiness concerns to engineers, and AI-agent methodologies to teams.

• Conduct training sessions and workshops, utilizing code reviews as an educational tool.

• By day 30, gain a comprehensive understanding of every account, engineer, and quality risk, while identifying any delivery challenges.

• By day 60, establish AI standards, lead training sessions and workshops, and assist teams in their respective areas.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of software development experience; at least 3 years in a direct leadership role for engineers.

• Proven experience managing engineering efforts across multiple concurrent client engagements or within an in-house organization, understanding the shifts when the work involves other businesses.

• Ongoing technical involvement, including code reading and reviews.

• Experience in hiring engineers and making decisions regarding their departure.

• Capability to challenge flawed designs with clients at an early stage.

• Proficiency in leading discussions, conducting workshops, and respectfully disagreeing with clients without losing their trust.

• Daily hands-on experience with coding agents, including a clear understanding of their limitations.

• Strong written communication skills.

• Preferred but not mandatory: leadership experience with distributed and offshore teams.

• Preferred but not mandatory: substantial experience with data and integration work involving ERP systems, unstable APIs, and systems lacking direct database access.

• Preferred but not mandatory: experience transitioning a services business towards product ownership.
