Head of Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Overseeing software development across various products and teams

• Creating realistic roadmap plans, highlighting dependencies, and ensuring reliable commitments

• Collaborating with Product & Growth to manage Engineering capacity

• Establishing effective delivery routines and addressing cross-team obstacles

• Leading and nurturing Engineering Leads and key technical personnel

• Furthering the organization’s development, career pathways, succession planning, recruitment, and onboarding

• Defining explicit roles, responsibilities, expectations, and decision-making boundaries

• Setting binding standards for code quality, reviews, testing, documentation, and release readiness

• Prioritizing needs for technical optimization

• Implementing AI-assisted software development, including standards, training, and secure tool usage

• Collaborating with Product & Growth, IT Operations, Cyber Security, Customer Success, Partner Management, and other stakeholders

• Managing release, rollback, and incident processes

• Integrating Secure Software Development and Security by Design into the development lifecycle

• Allocating Engineering resources for security findings and incidents

• Ensuring stable, secure, and efficient software delivery in partnership with the Head of IT Operations

⛳️ Requirements

• Several years of experience in leading software development organizations, preferably in a SaaS, platform, or e-commerce setting

• Experience in managing multiple Engineering teams or Engineering Leads

• Strong understanding of modern software architecture, APIs, data models, software delivery, and scalable development processes

• Background in legacy systems, modernization, and incremental architectural transformations

• Experience with capacity planning, prioritization, automated testing, release readiness, and collaboration with CI/CD and platform teams

• Practical experience with AI-assisted software development, modern coding assistants, or agentic engineering workflows

• Knowledge of Secure Software Development, Security by Design, and addressing technical security issues

• Familiarity with deployability, observability, reliability, and technical operational readiness

• Clear, direct, and accountable communication skills in both German and English

• Ability to translate technical decisions into business implications, risks, and trade-offs
