Head of Development

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Overall accountability for the strategic and operational growth of the entire engineering division.

• Integrate historically developed teams, architectures, and codebases into a cohesive organization.

• Create a sustainable modernization strategy aimed at minimizing technical debt while enhancing software architectures and development platforms.

• Assume ownership of the overarching technical architecture and establish technological guidelines.

• Collaborate with Product Management, Product Owners, and Scrum Masters to develop the technical roadmap.

• Provide technical and disciplinary leadership to Team Leads and development teams.

• Cultivate a performance-driven leadership culture while nurturing talent and future leaders.

• Oversee resource management, capacity planning, and budget allocation.

• Continuously enhance processes, methodologies, standards, and development tools.

• Implement modern engineering practices focusing on agility, CI/CD, DevOps, test automation, code quality, and security by design.

• Assess new technologies and AI methodologies for their potential value.

• Collaborate closely with Product Management, Quality Assurance, Release Management, Professional Services, and other corporate departments.

• Ensure adherence to pertinent quality, security, and regulatory standards in the healthcare sector.

• Solid and current experience in software development.

• Profound understanding of modern technologies, software architectures, and development methodologies.

• Several years of leadership experience in software development.

• Proven success in leading large-scale development organizations.

• Demonstrated ability to transform and enhance development organizations, particularly in historically established system environments.

• Experience in consolidating development teams, software architectures, and codebases, ideally during mergers or integration efforts.

• Strong expertise in modern software architectures, cloud-native architectures, DevOps principles, and contemporary development practices.

• Experience in strategically managing technical debt and modernizing complex software platforms.

• Understanding and practical experience with advancing agile development methods.

• Proven ability to lead and develop Team Leads and development teams, creating high-performing organizational structures.

• Confident communication skills at all organizational levels, with the ability to mediate differing interests.

• Entrepreneurial mindset, decisive clarity, and the capability to translate strategic objectives into sustainable technical solutions.

• Experience in regulated software development settings, such as healthcare, medical devices, or laboratory environments, is advantageous.
