Hazard Mitigation Planner – FEMA Plan Updates, HAZUS

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Evaluate the current mitigation strategy, previous review feedback, accessible hazard information, and the status of mitigation efforts.

• Facilitate collaboration among participating jurisdictions, organize planning committee meetings, conduct stakeholder interviews, and promote public involvement.

• Revise hazard profiles, vulnerability assessments, and assessments of community capabilities.

• Utilize HAZUS and GIS tools to analyze exposure and potential losses related to relevant hazards, while documenting data sources, assumptions, and limitations.

• Evaluate risks to individuals, structures, critical facilities, and infrastructure.

• Create and prioritize mitigation strategies with responsibilities tailored to each jurisdiction, identify potential funding opportunities, and set implementation timelines.

• Draft the revised plan and establish protocols for tracking progress and maintaining the plan.

• Respond to state and FEMA review feedback and assist participating jurisdictions with the adoption and approval process.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in leading updates for FEMA multi-jurisdictional hazard mitigation plans.

• Practical experience with HAZUS for conducting risk assessments and estimating losses.

• Excellent skills in GIS, data analysis, and technical writing.

• Background in coordinating with local governments, emergency management agencies, and community stakeholders.

• Capability to convert technical risk assessments into actionable mitigation strategies.

• Experience in supporting plans through state reviews, FEMA evaluations, and local adoption processes.

• Certification as a Floodplain Manager (CFM) is preferred.
