Grassroots Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maine, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Design and implement a thorough grassroots advocacy initiative throughout Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

• Recruit, nurture, sustain, and engage volunteer leaders.

• Formulate and execute grassroots strategies and campaign plans addressing local, state, and federal legislative objectives.

• Assist volunteers in reaching their fundraising targets.

• Collaborate with the state Government Relations Director to create grassroots strategies and advocacy campaigns.

• Support federal initiatives and the development of congressional champions.

• Craft and distribute volunteer emails, legislative alerts, issue talking points, and training materials.

• Organize and oversee Cancer Action lobby days and similar events, including virtual gatherings.

• Maintain ACS CAN web pages, Facebook profiles, and other social media accounts.

• Identify and cultivate volunteers with personal narratives connected to policy campaigns.

• Manage the volunteer framework and fill vacancies across the designated area.

• Plan and execute state legislative campaigns using Direct-Action Organizing principles.

• Coordinate campaign efforts with coalition partners and regional and national ACS CAN teams.

• Establish and sustain strategic collaborations and partnerships.

• Lead electoral activities through Cancer Votes while adhering to IRS and ACS CAN legal and reporting standards.

• Engage, train, develop, communicate with, and acknowledge volunteers.

• Enhance grassroots capabilities and maintain connections with grasstops and grassroots volunteers.

• Facilitate advocacy efforts by volunteers and nurture relationships with elected officials and their staff.

• Collaborate with American Cancer Society regional personnel, coalitions, and partners.

• Conduct training sessions for volunteers and ACS staff.

• Keep volunteer information updated in databases such as Salesforce.

• Propel volunteer fundraising activities and support volunteer-led events, Lights of Hope, and other fundraising initiatives.

• Assist with policy forums and various fundraising events.

• Travel within the assigned states for legislative campaigns, strategic meetings, and stakeholder engagement.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of relevant professional experience.

• Strongly preferred experience in political issues or campaign organizing.

• Preferred experience in attracting, developing, and engaging volunteers.

• Fundraising experience is advantageous.

• Experience with Salesforce, Every Action, or similar platforms is a plus.

• Familiarity with the fundamentals of Direct Action Organizing is beneficial.

• Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, computer, and social media skills are essential.

• Highly organized with strong time management skills are necessary.

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, work independently with minimal direction, and function as a team member or leader.

• Proven capacity to handle fast-paced, time-sensitive matters with both internal and external stakeholders.

• Ability to establish, conduct meetings, and maintain effective working relationships with state and federal legislative officials.

• Capability to build and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals and communities.

• Proficiency in completing work accurately and efficiently across various venues and state political environments.

• Ability to leverage available technology to fulfill job responsibilities.

• Willingness to travel by car, train, or plane as required.

• Regular travel and work within the communities of Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont as necessary.
