This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.
• Oversee the complete portfolio of government, bilateral, multilateral, and institutional grant funding for Space for Giants UK.
• Facilitate conservation initiatives, human-wildlife coexistence, wildlife crime prevention, and green economy programs throughout Africa.
• Spearhead donor prospecting, proposal crafting, grant negotiations, award management, compliance, and reporting.
• Discover and investigate new grant opportunities that align with the organization's strategic goals.
• Lead the creation, drafting, budgeting, and submission of grant proposals, concept notes, and budgets.
• Negotiate grant agreements, memoranda of understanding, and terms for sub-awards.
• Oversee the entire grants lifecycle, including award setup, compliance monitoring, financial and narrative reporting, amendments, and closure.
• Maintain the grants pipeline, tracker, and income forecast related to institutional funding.
• Ensure adherence to donor-specific rules, regulations, and reporting formats.
• Collaborate with the Finance team on grant budgeting, expenditure tracking, and donor financial reporting.
• Assist in donor due diligence exercises, audits, and assessments.
• Establish and nurture relationships with institutional donor program officers and representatives.
• Update the Director of Fundraising & Partnerships and CEO on the status of the pipeline, associated risks, and deadlines.
• Work in conjunction with the Director of Conservation, fundraising leadership, Country Directors, program teams, and Finance.
• Act as the primary point of contact for institutional donors and manage routine engagement with them.
• Report significant compliance breaches, major risks, and audit findings to the CFO and Company Secretary.
• Offer recommendations on grant agreements and sub-grant or partner agreements without signing authority.
• Submit Bamboo timesheets and monthly work plan documentation.
• Preference for candidates based in South Africa.
• Experience and qualifications suited for managing government, bilateral, multilateral, and institutional grant funding.
• Capability to identify and investigate grant opportunities that align with strategic priorities.
• Proficiency in developing, drafting, costing, and submitting grant proposals, concept notes, and budgets.
• Skills in negotiating grant agreements, memoranda of understanding, and sub-award terms.
• Experience in managing the full grants lifecycle, including compliance monitoring, financial and narrative reporting, amendments, and closure.
• Knowledge of donor-specific rules, regulations, and reporting formats, including the requirements typical of FCDO, USAID, EU, GIZ/BMZ, GEF, or Darwin Initiative-type funders.
• Ability to coordinate grant budgeting, expenditure tracking, and financial reporting with the Finance team.
• Capability to assist in donor due diligence, audits, and assessments.
• Ability to build and foster relationships with institutional donor representatives.
• Must manage sensitive donor information, unpublished proposals, and financial data in accordance with confidentiality and data protection policies.
• Must disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest involving other paid grant-writing, consultancy, or advisory work.
• Occasional travel required to the UK and African program countries, estimated at 2–4 trips per year.
• Ability to work 8 hours per day on a part-time contract basis.
• 12-month fixed-term contract, renewable based on funding availability and performance.
• Occasional international travel required to the UK and African program countries.
• Remote work opportunity based in South Africa.
