GNC Engineer, All Levels

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Create, evaluate, and test Guidance, Navigation, and Control algorithms for Astrolab's lunar rover fleet.

• Assist in the development and enhancement of GNC for crewed, semi-autonomous, and fully autonomous rover operations.

• Take responsibility for hardware selection and characterization, algorithm development and refinement, integrated performance analysis, and verification and validation of GNC subsystems.

• Utilize simulated environments and testing vehicles to design, enhance, and validate GNC functionality and performance.

• Establish requirements for GNC subsystems and algorithms.

• Develop GNC simulation tools, as well as analysis and testing plans, including hardware-in-the-loop testing.

• Work collaboratively with avionics, vehicle software, mobility, and integration and testing teams.

• Assist in sensor characterization, calibration, field testing, vehicle integration, and vehicle-level calibrations.

• Transform algorithm prototypes into flight software and support unit, integrated, and vehicle testing.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Over 3 years of professional experience in developing Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) systems.

• Proficient in Python programming.

• Familiarity with C++ programming.

• Experience in designing, tuning, and testing Extended Kalman Filters for vehicle state estimation.

• Experience in designing, tuning, and testing vehicle control algorithms.

• Background in building, testing, and validating GNC simulation tools.

• Skilled in performing GNC performance analysis, including Monte Carlo analysis.

• Experience in supporting GNC development from initial concept through to flight operations.

• Proven ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams to evolve GNC designs into flight software.

• Strong technical writing and verbal communication abilities.
