General Epidemiologist – Hemodialysis, National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) Coordinator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nevada.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health’s Healthcare Associated Infection Program.

• Conduct gap assessments on healthcare-associated infection data from hemodialysis clinics in Nevada.

• Create training materials.

• Analyze data regarding healthcare-associated infections in hemodialysis clinics.

• Utilize NHSN data, survey responses, and facility characteristics to pinpoint outpatient hemodialysis facilities for Infection Prevention Assessments and Response (ICAR).

• Execute statewide surveillance and evaluate aggregate NHSN data concerning healthcare-associated infections and antimicrobial resistance to track trends and identify emerging regional outbreaks.

• Support local healthcare facilities with NHSN enrollment, training, and adherence to state or CMS-mandated reporting obligations.

• Carry out outbreak investigations, including those related to COVID-19 and other infectious diseases, in state-licensed healthcare facilities.

• Build and nurture relationships with the CMS-funded End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Network.

• Enhance infection prevention and control capabilities in outpatient hemodialysis facilities through education, improvements in prevention practices, surveillance, outbreak reporting, and monitoring.

• Actively engage in CDC’s Making Dialysis Safer for Patients Coalition.

• Conduct a landscape analysis of outpatient dialysis service locations, with an emphasis on home dialysis, including services in nursing homes.

• Contribute to the outbreak team by managing healthcare facility outbreaks.

• Travel across Nevada as necessary.

• Adjust responsibilities as public health priorities and program needs change.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in nursing, health science, behavioral science, or a related field relevant to the program area, along with two years of public health experience, which includes at least two specified public health activity areas; OR a combination of education and experience that is equivalent.

• Experience serving as an Administrator for CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN).

• Minimum of two years of experience with hemodialysis facilities and patients.

• Certification in Infection Control is recommended but not mandatory.

• Preference for Nevada residency.

• Full vaccination against COVID-19 is a prerequisite for employment.

• Must have and maintain a valid driver's license in the state of residence.

• Required to self-report any motor vehicle violations or convictions.

• Must provide evidence of acceptable insurance coverage under the Driver Safety Motor Vehicle Policy.

• Must satisfy all minimum qualifications outlined in the Driver Safety Motor Vehicle Policy.
