GCP Program Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take responsibility for the strategy, design, implementation, and assessment of a minimum of two GCP programs.

• Innovate with various workshop formats and objectives, discontinuing those that are ineffective.

• Create outreach and marketing strategies.

• Cultivate robust applicant pools and select participants accordingly.

• Establish connections throughout the field and recruit researchers, policymakers, funders, operators, and other experts as guest speakers.

• Design the structure, sessions, content, and participant experiences for workshops.

• Facilitate three-day residential workshops in person.

• Deliver presentations, introduce guests, advise participants, manage the on-site team, and ensure the effective execution of workshops.

• Supervise GCP team members, interns, and volunteers on assigned programs.

• Likely manage one GCP team member and interns as the team expands.

• Gather structured feedback and monitor participant outcomes.

• Utilize evidence to enhance, expand, or terminate programs.

• Contribute to the overall team strategy.

• Develop operational structures and automation to facilitate scaling.

• Assist in the design and launch of the internship program.

• Report directly to Sam Glendenning, the leader of the Global Challenges Project.

• Proven experience in organizing and conducting workshops, conferences, retreats, or similar events.

• Strong project delivery experience in complex in-person environments is acceptable as a substitute.

• A profound concern for the advancement of AI and biotechnology.

• A belief that workshops can significantly aid talented individuals in entering the fields of AI safety and biosecurity.

• Enthusiasm for engaging with participants and guests throughout three-day residential events.

• Capability to ensure events proceed without issues.

• Comfort in managing a small team.

• Previous experience overseeing operational or programmatic teams is highly advantageous.

• High level of initiative and the ability to identify problems, adapt, and act independently.

• Highly organized, with efficient systems for managing multiple programs, workstreams, teams, and deadlines.

• Familiarity with the AI safety ecosystem, including key organizations and individuals.

• Understanding of the interconnections within the AI safety ecosystem.

• Familiarity with biosecurity or U.S. policy is an advantage.

• Willingness to travel approximately 8 to 12 times per year, typically for 3 to 6 days per trip.

• Ability to work remotely, with a preference for candidates within five hours of UK time.

• Work authorization and visa sponsorship for the UK or US will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
