Frontend Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Develop and enhance responsive, accessible user interfaces utilizing React and TypeScript.

• Convert product priorities and user feedback into well-defined workflows and refined interactions.

• Advance frontend architecture, reusable components, and shared UI designs.

• Optimize interfaces for AI-assisted development, including features such as streamed responses, progress updates, generated-output review, and error recovery.

• Integrate backend systems and third-party APIs, effectively managing application state, asynchronous updates, loading states, and error handling.

• Implement new features while ensuring the reliability and consistency of existing functionalities.

• Detect and fix usability challenges, frontend bugs, and performance issues.

• Enhance frontend test coverage, code quality, and confidence during releases.

• Participate in code reviews and technical decision-making, balancing immediate product requirements with long-term sustainability.

• Utilize AI coding tools while independently assessing and validating their outputs.

• Collaborate closely with the founders and engineering team to advance HyperDev’s AI developer platform.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of professional frontend development experience, with significant hands-on expertise in TypeScript and React.

• Proficient in HTML and CSS, including responsive design, semantic markup, and accessible interaction patterns.

• Proven history of shipping and maintaining production-grade web applications.

• Experience in designing reusable components and managing complex application states.

• Proficient in API integration and developing reliable interfaces for asynchronous data.

• Strong focus on interaction design and visual detail, capable of translating designs or early concepts into functional interfaces.

• Experience in writing meaningful component, integration, and end-to-end tests using tools like React Testing Library, Vitest, or Playwright.

• Confident in diagnosing frontend bugs and performance issues using browser developer tools.

• Familiar with Git/GitHub workflows, code reviews, and CI/CD processes.

• Practical experience with AI coding assistants, demonstrating sound judgment about correctness, security, and maintainability.

• Ability to work autonomously, clearly communicate trade-offs, and collaborate in a dynamic startup environment.

• Preferred: Experience in developing developer tools, code editors, or other complex interactive applications.

• Preferred: Familiarity with AI-driven interfaces, streamed responses, WebSockets, or server-sent events.

• Preferred: Knowledge of browser-based editor frameworks like Monaco or CodeMirror.

• Preferred: Experience in creating design systems or shared component libraries.

• Preferred: Proficiency with Tailwind CSS, UnoCSS, or similar styling frameworks.

• Preferred: Familiarity with Cloudflare Workers/Pages, frontend deployment workflows, or monorepo tools.

• Preferred: Experience packaging web applications for desktop environments using Electron or comparable tools.

• Preferred: Contributions to open-source projects.
