Frontend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Take complete ownership of the frontend development process, from initial architecture and brainstorming to ongoing production code maintenance.

• Develop the user interface for Restate, a streamlined runtime that transforms AI agents, workflows, and backend services into robust processes.

• Clearly and quickly present execution timelines, retries, queues, states, and failures.

• Create interfaces capable of handling large datasets, with functionalities for live updates, filtering, searching, charts, and timelines.

• Optimize rendering costs, data loading times, and perceived latency.

• Ensure safe handling of untrusted content, authentication processes, and critical controls such as stop, retry, and delete functionalities.

• Enhance keyboard navigation, deep links, and state persistence during page refreshes.

• Develop and maintain a shared component library.

• Work collaboratively with design engineers, the broader product team, and the founding team, from initial concept sketches to final feature releases.

• Convert complex behaviors of distributed systems into intuitive product experiences.

⛳️ Requirements

• Several years of experience with React and TypeScript in a large-scale application that has become complex.

• Proven experience in profiling and resolving issues related to slow rendering, long lists, unnecessary re-renders, and bundle size constraints.

• Expertise in building data-heavy interfaces featuring pagination, virtualization, filtering, searching, and charting with actual data.

• Familiarity with data fetching and client-side state management, including caching, invalidation, polling, streaming, optimistic updates, and managing slow requests.

• Understanding of how to securely render untrusted content.

• Knowledge of authentication processes and session management.

• Awareness of dependency-tree security principles.

• Strong information design skills for dense interfaces.

• Understanding of accessibility standards, including semantics, focus management, keyboard navigation, and assistive technologies.

• Ability to interpret API specifications, queries, and backend code.

• Experience with unit and end-to-end testing.

• Regular use of AI tools and the ability to determine when to disregard their outputs.

• Strong viewpoints supported by completed projects.

• Capability to work independently and assertively when necessary.

• Nice to have: experience with developer tools, observability, or infrastructure products.

• Nice to have: experience in data visualization techniques involving timelines, traces, graphs, and time series.

• Nice to have: experience with production design systems.

• Nice to have: familiarity with multi-tenant SaaS environments, roles, quotas, and usage.

• Nice to have: willingness to contribute to backend pull requests.

• Must be based in Europe, with consideration for exceptional candidates based in the US for remote work.
