Freelance Game Designer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Generate momentum in setting content pacing for a comforting mobile game

• Enhance player user experience (UX)

• Assist in the development of secondary features that enrich the game experience

• Lead features and content from initial idea through to implementation and balancing

• Operate based on high-level guidance provided by the Lead Game Designer

• Assume responsibility for execution without the need for task-level breakdowns

⛳️ Requirements

• 3-6+ years of experience in game design, including at least one released title

• Proficient and comfortable with hands-on work in Unity

• Above-average creative writing abilities demonstrated in portfolio pieces or in-game content

• Knowledge of mobile control paradigms and platform specifications, including touch-first interactions and mobile limitations

• Evident passion for player experience and development of player-facing features

• Capacity to work under high-level direction and manage execution independently without task-level guidance

• Portfolio showcasing a diverse range of design, writing, and implementation examples

• Experience with or a strong affinity for cosy, narrative-driven, and life-simulation games

• Familiarity with game balancing aspects: economy, progression, and difficulty tuning

• Understanding of UX best practices for games and player-facing communication

• Experience in narrative design, utilizing tools, and managing complex content requirements

• Background in UX design or player research

• Released mobile games

• A games library that includes titles such as Stardew Valley, Spiritfarer, Pokopia, and Animal Crossing

• Clear and purposeful writing focused on the player

• Ability to balance spreadsheets with narrative elements
