Founding Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Develop production and prototype code throughout the entire stack.

• Rapidly create MVPs and functional demos, validating them with actual data or users.

• Construct internal tools and implement lightweight automation solutions.

• Deliver integrations with devices, sensors, and external services.

• Transform open technical inquiries related to models, hardware, and open-source components into practical evidence.

• Conduct end-to-end experiments, assess outcomes, document insights, and provide recommendations.

• Engage in hands-on experimentation with humanoid robots.

• Assess build-versus-buy-versus-integrate options and justify recommendations.

• Address technical inquiries from the CEO and other business stakeholders.

• Provide guidance to leadership regarding feasibility, effort, and risk assessments.

• Manage scope creep and unrealistic timelines effectively.

• Support the creation of technical narratives for presentations and funding opportunities.

• Assist in establishing a foundation for recruiting and mentoring additional engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional software development experience, demonstrating a history of delivering products for real users.

• Strong practical engineering skills; proficient across the stack and possess in-depth knowledge in at least one area.

• Practical understanding of AI/ML, particularly with LLMs, speech, or perception systems, along with awareness of their limitations.

• Experience in taking a product from concept to a functioning initial version in an ambiguous setting without a dedicated team.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work autonomously and take ownership; prioritize tasks without a well-defined backlog.

• Willingness and capability to travel to the US a few times annually.

• Preferred: background in robotics, humanoids, embodied AI, IoT, or connected devices.

• Preferred: familiarity with edge deployment, audio pipelines, sensors, and on-device inference.

• Preferred: experience working with distributed engineering teams.

• Preferred: background in early-stage startups.

• Preferred: instinct for product development.

• Preferred: technical discipline background or equivalent self-taught technical expertise.

• Advanced to fluent English proficiency required.

• Must be Brazilian and/or currently residing in Brazil.

• Must provide a link to a project built end-to-end.
