Forward Deployed Engineer, Video

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Assist Protege's video division as a Forward Deployed Engineer.

• Take responsibility for the technical success of video clients and develop reusable systems for future scalability.

• Collaborate with the General Manager of the division, product and platform engineering teams, Data Lab, and commercial departments.

• Convert customer model-development objectives into actionable technical plans with well-defined acceptance criteria.

• Oversee the implementation and operation of customer engagements, from feasibility assessment to post-delivery support.

• Create tools to characterize, measure, describe, sell, and validate raw video datasets.

• Enhance solutions to meet high-volume requests and unique data inquiries.

• Identify platform capabilities based on customer requests and contribute to their design and construction.

• Develop the video FDE technical playbook, quality standards, reusable toolkit, and platform investment roadmap.

• Manage customer inquiries, newly acquired partner datasets, and architectural decisions across multiple simultaneous projects.

• Be available outside of standard hours when deals are active.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 3 years of engineering experience, including significant interaction with customers or external technical stakeholders.

• Direct experience with media data, with a strong preference for video data specifically.

• Proven experience in building and operating systems that process, analyze, or deliver data at scale.

• Strong customer-facing skills, including the ability to translate ambiguous requirements, discuss trade-offs, and establish trust with technical stakeholders.

• Demonstrated ability to take end-to-end ownership, from initial problem identification to implementation, validation, and ongoing support.

• High tolerance for ambiguity and a proactive approach, with the judgment to recognize when further investigation is needed or when to push back.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent priorities and time-sensitive customer tasks.

• Practical experience with video processing at scale is a plus, including familiarity with codecs and transcoding, ffmpeg, shot detection, frame sampling strategies, or perceptual quality measurement.

• Experience in an early-stage company or startup-like setting is a plus.

• Practical knowledge of Python and SQL is a plus.

• Familiarity with search, vector embeddings, semantic retrieval, or ML-assisted data curation is a plus.

• Experience in evaluating or deploying vision-language models, including the construction of an evaluation harness, is a plus.

• Background in product engineering or a strong product-oriented mindset is a plus.

• Familiarity with AWS, Databricks, Dagster, or Vercel is a plus.
