Forward Deployed Engineer – Staff

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee.

📋 Description

• Serve as an embedded engineering liaison within the Infrastructure Software Division.

• Identify migration obstacles and usability gaps in the platform, quickly developing and testing field solutions.

• Manage customer interactions from the pre-migration discovery phase through to go-live and operational stability.

• Write production-grade code, create manifests, debug live networking, storage, and GPU issues, and enhance VKS performance in production settings.

• Convert field-tested code, architectural designs, and customer challenges into prioritized features for the platform.

• Design, deploy, and oversee production-grade VKS clusters within VMware Cloud Foundation and hybrid cloud infrastructures.

• Lead migrations from enterprise, bare-metal, and legacy systems to VKS or cloud-native Kubernetes.

• Deploy, optimize, and scale AI inferencing, RAG, vector search, and model-serving workloads on Kubernetes utilizing virtualized GPUs.

• Containerize, refactor, and transition stateful engines, message brokers, distributed caches, and analytics platforms to Kubernetes.

• Design cloud-native deployments for contemporary data processing, orchestration, and distributed AI frameworks.

• Advise clients using VKS alongside OpenShift, EKS, GKE, AKS, or Rancher distributions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree is preferred.

• Relevant years of experience may be accepted in place of a degree.

• A minimum of 12 years of related experience is required.

• Strong alignment with product engineering workflows and experience within or adjacent to core software/R&D divisions.

• Demonstrated experience managing the full lifecycle of customer technical leadership and developers on intricate engineering projects.

• Capability to convert customer needs and field workarounds into product specifications and feature requests.

• Practical experience with GPU-accelerated Kubernetes nodes, vLLM, TGI, Triton Inference Server, Milvus, Qdrant, Pgvector, Ray, and KubeRay.

• Experience in containerizing and managing distributed caching, in-memory grids, risk calculation platforms, Hadoop, messaging, and streaming systems.

• Extensive knowledge of Ray, vLLM, Apache Spark, Apache Flink, Dask, Apache Airflow, Prefect, Dagster, Argo Workflows, Trino/Presto, Cassandra/ScyllaDB, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, Milvus, and Qdrant.

• Technical expertise across OpenShift, EKS, GKE, AKS, or Rancher RKE/RKS.

• Advanced proficiency in Terraform, Helm, Kubernetes Operators, Cluster API, ArgoCD, and Flux.
