FOIA Analyst

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Evaluate and manage new, ongoing, routine, intricate, and overdue FOIA requests.

• Ascertain whether records pertain to the assigned requests.

• Assess records and suggest the suitable application of FOIA and Privacy Act exemptions.

• Prepare records for dissemination by implementing redactions.

• Compose correspondence for requesters and collaborate with records custodians to clarify request scope, search parameters, and disclosure issues.

• Assist with FOIA appeals and legal proceedings by organizing case files, reviewing records, and compiling necessary documentation.

• Utilize case-management, eDiscovery, SharePoint, Box, and other authorized systems.

• Accurately document case actions, correspondence, decisions, and supporting materials in the specified tracking system.

• Create document indices, status updates, disclosure analyses, and case-closure records.

• Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

• A minimum of 5 years of pertinent FOIA experience.

• Proven proficiency in reviewing and managing federal FOIA cases.

• In-depth understanding of FOIA exemptions, the Privacy Act, disclosure analysis, appeals, and litigation support.

• Familiarity with eDiscovery, electronic case-management, and redaction tools; experience with Relativity is highly preferred.

• Capacity to independently analyze intricate or sensitive records and provide accurate, defensible recommendations.

• Outstanding analytical, writing, quality-control, and organizational capabilities.

• Ability to obtain and sustain the necessary security clearance.
