Fire Investigator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.

📋 Description

• Conduct investigations into fire incidents to ascertain origin, cause, and accountability based on client or designated legal counsel directives.

• Accept investigation assignments for losses or claims and pursue them according to the specific requirements of each assignment.

• Identify the origin and cause of losses/claims and ascertain potential third-party liability for subrogation purposes.

• Fulfill necessary reporting obligations to clients following EFI's standard protocols.

• Promote and advertise EFI services within the insurance sector and designated region.

• Serve as a liaison between the insurance industry and law enforcement/fire service personnel.

• Investigate losses/claims that involve illegal, fraudulent, or subrogation elements.

• Identify and interview witnesses and involved individuals to collect pertinent information and evidence.

• Review public records, including land deeds, mortgages, liens, lawsuits, judgments, and marriage/divorce documents.

• Keep abreast of privacy regulations and the availability of public records to ensure investigations are conducted legally and ethically.

• Travel as necessary.

• Execute additional tasks as assigned.

• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide reliable, defensible conclusions and excellent client service.


⛳️ Requirements

• Reside in the greater Albuquerque, NM area; preference will be given to candidates living in this region.

• A minimum of Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator (CFEI) certification is required.

• IAAI-CFI certification is preferred; if necessary, it must be obtained within six months of employment.

• A minimum of three (3) years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

• A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.

• Strong oral and written communication skills.

• Proficient in PC usage, including Microsoft Office applications.

• Excellent organizational and time management abilities.

• Strong interpersonal skills.

• Good analytical and interpretive capabilities.

• Proficient investigative skills.

• High attention to detail and accuracy.

• Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team setting.

• Capability to meet or exceed Performance Competencies.

• Must be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods.

• Must be capable of kneeling, squatting, or bending.

• Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, both hot and cold.

• Ability to climb, crawl, stoop, kneel, and reach/work overhead.

• Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds.

• Ability to push/pull up to 100 pounds.

• Ability to drive for up to 4 hours per day.

• Adequate hearing, vision, and speaking abilities.
