FinOps Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee cloud cost management and optimization, which encompasses cost analysis, budgeting, forecasting, anomaly detection, and ongoing cost governance across multi-cloud environments, adhering to FinOps best practices, financial controls, and organizational reporting standards.

• Execute the complete FinOps lifecycle activities (Inform, Optimize, and Operate phases) utilizing cloud cost management tools in collaboration with engineering, finance, and procurement teams, employing Lean-Agile methodologies.

• Complete tasks including, but not limited to, cost model design, implementation of tagging and allocation strategies, rate optimization (reserved instances, savings plans, committed use discounts), and unit economics reporting while ensuring adherence to data quality, governance, and process requirements.

• Assist in the root cause analysis of cost anomalies, budget discrepancies, and underutilized or misconfigured cloud resources.

• Support the team in identifying daily tasks and reporting progress during daily stand-ups.

• Aid financial and technical stakeholders by developing showback/chargeback models, dashboards, and verification strategies to facilitate ongoing cost optimization efforts.

• Design and implement systems for the aggregation and analysis of cloud billing and usage data across the organization.

• Ensure that infrastructure and architecture changes do not compromise cost efficiency by employing forecasting models and scenario analyses.

• Demonstrate a passion for cloud economics and promote a culture of cost accountability within engineering teams.

• Communicate effectively in a team setting, clearly conveying cost trends, savings opportunities, and support needed to help the team achieve financial objectives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Finance, Accounting, Data Analytics, or a related technical field, along with demonstrated competencies and technical proficiencies typically gained through 6+ years of experience; or

• Master's Degree in Computer Science, Finance, Accounting, Data Analytics, or a related technical field, with demonstrated competencies and technical proficiencies typically acquired through 3+ years of experience; or

• FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP) certification is preferred.
