
Financial Controller – Part-Time

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Evaluate and modify finance systems, models, controls, and processes to meet the company's current and future requirements.
• Manage the month-end schedule and coordinate with the outsourced finance partner.
• Analyze monthly management accounts, encompassing revenue, costs, accruals, prepayments, deferred income, and significant judgments.
• Identify any missing invoices or incomplete data.
• Address issues across the organization, maintain an action log, and ensure that corrections are made prior to the CEO's review.
• Oversee and update the rolling cash-flow forecast.
• Lead the annual budgeting and regular re-forecasting process.
• Model the cash and profit impacts of hiring, changes in customer timing, investments, and various other scenarios.
• Create the financial section of the board pack, along with the supporting spreadsheets and presentation slides.
• Articulate performance, cash status, runway, forecasts, SaaS metrics, risks, and decision-making insights.
• Supervise commission plans and calculations to ensure that approved commissions are paid accurately and punctually.
• Provide financial analysis to support commercial and hiring decisions.
• Report directly to the CEO and work approximately two days a week.
• Qualified accountant, preferably ACA, ACCA, or CIMA.
• Experience as a Financial Controller or in a similar hands-on finance position.
• Background in a growing SaaS, technology, or other recurring-revenue business.
• Strong management accounting expertise, including month-end reviews, accruals, prepayments, revenue recognition, and variance analysis.
• Capability to create and maintain cash-flow forecasts, budgets, and scenario models.
• Proficient in preparing clear financial information and commentary for boards or senior leadership teams.
• Comfortable overseeing an outsourced bookkeeping or accounting partner while maintaining internal control over the output.
• Familiarity with SaaS metrics such as ARR, bookings, revenue, gross margin, retention, and cash runway.
• Advanced spreadsheet skills and the ability to enhance an existing model without adding unnecessary complexity.
• Capacity to investigate missing invoices or incorrect accruals.
• Proficient in communicating financial information clearly and constructively challenging assumptions with senior colleagues.
• Ability to work effectively in a part-time capacity.
• Experience in enhancing finance systems, models, controls, and processes as the company expands.
• Additional desirable qualifications include experience in venture-backed scale-ups, SaaS finance, board-pack preparation, commission calculations, annual budgeting, rolling re-forecasts, start-up or scaling technology company experience, coordination of year-end accounts/tax/payroll/compliance, and support for commercial decision-making.
